Update on Josh... Cool Runnings!

We wanted to share a few pieces of updated information from last week’s post.

1. As you can see from the picture above, the deck is complete! Thanks again to Home Depot for blessing us in this way! I was over at the house this weekend building a fire in the back yard that Josh was able to come down and enjoy.

2. We had also mentioned in the last post about the trial for the man that hit Josh. A new court date has been set for early February. The family just asks for prayers as this process continues to drag on.

3. On a more positive note, Josh has his first hyperbaric chamber treatment tomorrow. Josh and dad have been working hard on their best impression of Cool Runnings, the Jamaican Bobsled Team as they prepare to go into the chamber together. Please pray that everything goes smoothly and that Josh can handle the pressure in the chamber. If all goes well, Dad and Josh will begin the treatment for 1 hr every week day for the next 4 weeks. We are hopefull that this treatment will be a turning point Josh and will help to awaken and re-energize his body.

Otherwise, Josh is doing well. I run into people all the time who ask how he is and my response is always that he is doing ‘OK’. Many people don’t understand that Josh is still in a semi-conscious state which means that Josh is aware of what is going on around him, but that he has a hard time responding in a way that you may expect. So we adapt. We often ask Josh to smile if he likes something that we are doing or to spit out something that he doesn’t like. We see progress in inches, not miles and as long as we are moving forward, we will continue, inch by inch.

In the last post, my dad shared his faith story. Over the last few months, I have been asked to share mine several times as well. I won’t go into all of it but there are a lot of similarities to what my dad shared. My faith story will forever be linked to my brother. I tell people that I have always fully believed in God and the promises made in the Bible, but I was never really put in a situation where I had to fully trust God before September 27, 2016. I really like feeling in control of what goes on in my little circle, and when the Lord took that control away, I had to make a choice. I was either going to blame God for allowing this terrible thing to happen, or I was going to decide to trust that the Lord will use Josh, and our family to further his kingdom. It is not an easy pill to swallow and I have battled with it for months, but I will say that I trust God more today than I did a year ago and more than I ever have before in my life and I know that God has a plan for my brother.

Hebrews 13:20-21

“Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
