Update on Josh...Rehab Progress!

Josh and Kara, here!

We are so encouraged with all that Josh has gotten to tackle this past month and a half in San Antonio! Some highlights have been: walking, getting into the pool, doing squats, developing more independence, and getting the Baclofen pump.

I asked Josh how it felt for him to put his feet back on the ground to practice walking and he said he just felt “so grateful & relieved” He said he’s been dreaming of that for a while now, and to actually be able to do it (& walk 50 feet!) was pretty surreal. For me, Josh in the gym and on the squat machine is quite the site to see. He is in his element and completely lights up. We of course had to make a squatting competition out of it and you guessed it...Josh beat me!

We are constantly seeing new movement and muscles kick in, and Josh is smiling and laughing more than not these days. His therapists here have gotten a good taste of his big personality and we feel like we have a little Polytrauma family down here.

With all of that being said...we are heading back to Arkansas on Friday! There’s been a new working relationship established between San Antonio, Arkansas, and the Fohners- and we’re excited! This will allow Josh to be based out of his own home, while still coming back to San Antonio every so often. We are anticipating a return this Fall. (This is a rare set up, which is especially encouraging- thank you, Lord!) The teams are working together so Josh can hit the ground running in Arkansas and we are anticipating just as much momentum, if not more! Josh is specifically looking forward to getting back to his family and friends, sleeping in his own bed, mom’s home made food, returning to the Hyperbaric Chamber, and structuring his day the Josh Fohner way!

As always, thank you for coming alongside us and being for Josh and for his healing! We want to invite you to keep praying with us:

  • Please pray that PT in Arkansas will be scheduled at least 3 times a week, with a therapist that is All In For Josh

  • Please pray that the new equipment that will benefit Josh will arrive promptly

  • Please pray that Josh would continue to respond well to the Baclofen pump and for the right dosage

  • Please pray for more flexibility, strength, and endurance in all of Josh’s muscles

  • Specifically from Josh: “please pray for walking and talking, for healing to come quickly, and for patience”

All In!

Josh & Kara
